One Great Day of Fellowship and Service


For the past six years, church members and friends have made a one-day commitment to work on projects that benefit our church and community at large. This year's event was held Sunday, May 1, 2011. Here are some of the projects offered:

#1. Sandwich Workshops
Preparing sandwiches for Salvation Army Soup Kitchen and All Nations Church Kitchen for the Homeless

 

#2. Cancelled Stamps for Congo
Presbytery of Eastern Virginia project that sells stamps for the purchase of medical supplies and training for Christian workers in the Congo

 

#3. Food Closet
Annual cleaning of shelves and sorting of food in food closet

 

#4: VBS Craft Preparation
Preparing craft projects to be used during Vacation Bible School

 

 

#5: Gutter Cleaning
Cleaning the gutters around the church building


#6: Home Assistance
Yard clean up and small fix-up jobs for Hidenwood members who need help in this area

 

#7: International Cooperating Ministries

ICM builds churches throughout the world. Help mail prayer letters and prayer guides

 

#8. Letters to Military Personnel
Writing letters to military personnel who are HPC members or the relatives of members to thank them and encourage them for their good works and witness.

 

#9. Student Letters to Military Personnel
Service men and women especially treasure letters from students. Great project for students in grades 4-12

 

#10.  Simple Sewing for Choir
Sewing bell table covers and costumes

#11.  Costume Preparation for Children’s Choirs
Hot glue costumes for children’s choir’s May performance


#12.  Clean-up Sunday School Resource Room
Straightening, cleaning, and organizing Room 200 (upstairs, educational wing)

#13.  Property Committee Projects
Power washing outside of church around playground area

#14.  Sound System Training
Training all interested persons in the running of the sound system and PowerPoint presentations for Sunday morning worship

#15.  Prayer Vigil
Praying for those in need in our community and around the world. Praying for God’s wisdom and guidance for Hidenwood Presbyterian Church; its leaders, staff, mission, and congregation. It is hoped that everyone participating in “One Great Day” will join in the prayer vigil at sometime during the two-hour project time

#16.  Garden Project Brain Storming
Is it possible to sustain a vegetable garden at HPC?

#17.  Craft Preparation for Dresden Drive Preschool
Preschoolers require certain pre-preparation of craft projects before they can proceed to complete the craft.  (Similar to VBS craft preparation.)

#18.  Health Kits for Haiti
Preparing individual health kits for Haiti earthquake victims from resources collected by our Cub Scouts.
