Acts10:44-48

Click HERE to listen to today’s Scripture.

While Peter was still speaking, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who heard the word. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles, for they heard them speaking in tongues and extolling God. Then Peter said, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing these people who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” So he ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they invited him to stay for several days.

Reflection Questions

1. What connections do you see to the overarching theme of taking the Gospel message to the ends of the earth?

2. What connections did you see within the additional scripture references? How did this enhance your understanding of today’s passage?

3. What similarities did you hear between the First Century church and the American church today?

4. The Holy Spirit descending on “all who heard the word” would indicate that God is not playing favorites, that there should no longer be any barriers –ethnic, geographical,
cultural-in the way of everyone being offered forgiveness and new life. Would our church look any different if we lived out this understanding of God not playing favorites? Or accepting not simply tolerating others?
