Children& Youth

Jr Disciples

Open to children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We meet on Tuesday nights from 5:00-6:00 for fellowship, faith and fun. Each week we come together for music, games and crafts while we are learning about our faith. The Jr Disciples maintain the courtyard garden as part of their mission; selling produce to church members and using their resources to support mission work of their choosing. Our current goal is to raise $250.00 to help a school in Haiti build their own garden (project sponsored by the Presbyterian Mission Agency). Our current session will run May 25, 2021. For more information please contact [email protected] or call the church at 757 596-1151.

Youth Fellowship

The Youth Fellowship program at Hidenwood Presbyterian offers a space for youth, grades 6-12, to come together, share stories, and grow in their personal faith. Dinner starts at 5:30 in McKeithen Hall and the group moves to various rooms in the church based on planned activity for the evening.

Confirmation Class meets Sundays from 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. from January through June, when the class joins the church as a group on Confirmation Sunday.

Children’s God & Family Program

The God and Church program will ultimately lead to earning the God and Church emblem. The program will explore a young person’s faith journey in three parts: meeting Jesus, worshiping God, and witnessing and ministering for Christ. This program is conscious of different denominational theology, and individual religious exposure will be taken into consideration.

If you would like the Flower Guild to prepare the flowers for you, please note “FG” by your name on the calendar. If you wish to use a florist, please note that on the calendar instead.

We look forward to arranging flowers in memory or in honor of loved ones or to celebrate a special anniversary, graduation, birth of a child or grandchild, or other special days.

We believe that the arts are an integral part of our worship and the life of our community. With this in mind, the music and fine arts ministry at Hidenwood Presbyterian Church is dedicated to providing opportunities for everyone – old or young, advanced or beginner, musician or non-musician – to express their faith in ways meaningful to them. The Psalms tell us to “Make a joyful noise!” We hope that you take time to explore all of the music and fine arts ministries here and find your own way to do just that! Soli Deo Gloria!

Sanctuary Choir

Director: Geoffrey Bell, Thursdays, 7-8:30 p.m., Music Room. The Sanctuary Choir serves as the core of our music ministry at Hidenwood. All middle and high school, college, and adult singers interested in offering their voices to the glory of God in worship are invited to join the group. This choir leads the congregation in the traditional worship service every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and at special services throughout the year, and presents seasonal major works and concerts. The Sanctuary Choir performs a wide variety of repertoire, from classical to contemporary, hymn arrangements to black gospel. Any person able to match pitch and carry a tune is invited to join – no audition or musical ability required!

Director: Geoffrey Bell, Sundays, 12:15-1:15 p.m., Music Room. Hidenwood’s handbell choir rings the church’s four octaves of Schulmerich handbells. Rehearsals include ringing technique, reading of bell music, and exercises in rhythm and reading notes. Ringers and non-ringers of all levels are encouraged to join. All ages are welcome – adults, youth, and children!

Guitar Group

Director: Geoffrey Bell, Wednesdays @5:30pm, Sanctuary. The Guitar Group serves as a fun outlet for those who play the guitar or other folk instrument (Banjo, fiddle, percussion, etc) to get together and make music. Several singers have also joined the group in recent years. Their repertoire includes hymns, praise songs, bluegrass, blues and some rock. The group shares in worship one Sunday each month, plays the Pumpkin Festival in October, hosts an annual coffee house in November, and plays several other congregational events throughout the year. All levels of musicians welcome!
